Our students had a life-changing time at the Australian Science Innovations Science Olympiad Summer School at the Australian National University this month. They performed well in their respective discipline's national-level exams last August to be selected for the residential summer school, where they spent 2 intense weeks in lectures, labs, field trips and more learning university-level Science. Summer school is always a place of intense learning and building lifelong friendships with liked-minded, talented and interested young people.
Anthony and Wayne credit their own journeys through the Science Olympiad programs as one of the most important factors for their Science and educational development. The top students from summer school go on to represent Australia at the International Science Olympiads later this year. Anthony and Wayne will accompany Australia's Chemistry and EES teams to Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Turin, Italy, respectively.
The National Australian Science Olympiad Exams run in July every year, and Atlas students are encouraged to speak to their school Science faculties to give the exams a go. Particularly the Earth & Environmental Science Exam, which requires limited prerequisite knowledge, focusing on students' abilities to integrate new knowledge into their existing understanding and interpret data and information to solve problems. You never know where these exams could take you!
Congratulations to:
Elaine Li - Biology (not pictured)
Jingru Xu - Physics
Nina Namby - EES
